John 12:37-50.
The Unbelief of the People
"Lord who has believed our message? To whom will the Lord reveal his saving power?" But the people couldn't believe, for Isaiah also said, " The Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts - so their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them." (38, 40)
There were many believers, but they were quiet believers. They were the ones who silently worshipped God, but wouldn't openly admit their belief because they feared what others thought. "For they loved human praise more than the praise of God."(43) This line hits home for me. Because I know I am a quiet believer. I am just coming out of the closet, but at least I am admitting it and I am making a change, taking a stand for Christ.
"I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the darkness... I have come to save the world, not to judge it. But all who reject me and my message will be judged at the day of judgement by the truth I have spoken." (46-48)
Yes, Lord! I have seen your glorious light and I am following it as best as I can. I pray Father, that this light will continue to brighten so I don't lose sight of you.
2 Timothy 4:5-8
Paul's Final Words
Paul tells us to keep a clear mind and to not be afraid to suffer for Christ. Our work is to bring others closer to God. Our prize awaits us when Christ returns. I want to be able to say the same words, Paul says: I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race and I have remained faithful." (7)
