Double Standards When Seeking God

John 7:14-36
Is Jesus the Messiah
In this text Jesus points out the double standard that the pharisees have.  Jesus asks why he should be condemned for healing a sick man on the Sabbath when the pharisees, themselves, perform circumcisions on the Sabbath by following the law of Moses. Bottom line: Doing "good" on a Sabbath day is fine.

This makes me think about how I behave.  I try not to have a "double" standard in my own life. I pray that God will continue to open my eyes to see myself clearly, especially when I exhibit unrighteous traits.

1 Timothy 5:17-25
Advice about Widows, Elders and Slaves (cont'd)
"Anyone who sins should be rebuked in front of the whole church so that others will have a proper fear of God" (20)
"Do not participate in the sins of others.  Keep yourself pure." (22)

This passage reminds me to not get mixed up in the mess.  Don't fall to the sins of society.  Follow the light from God.  We are not to judge others, that is left for God.  We may provide words of comfort and guidance; we can't walk the road for them.
God, I pray that you keep my heart pure, protect me from the lure of society's hunger for materialism and cruelty.
